All aboard the HMS Beagle, we’re headed to the Galápagos Islands to learn about Darwin’s famous finches and adaptive radiation! For this month’s library event, EcoReach hosted an ultimate foraging showdown to illustrate the advantages of niche partitioning via adaptive radiation.
This past Tuesday, EcoReach participated in a career day at Hilsman Middle School for students in Agricultural Science and Family and Consumer Science classes.
EcoReach volunteers visited Lifespan Montessori of Athens and taught students, ages 3-6, all about gopher tortoises and the longleaf pine ecosystem where they are found.
This past Saturday, EcoReach got into the Halloween spirit at Sandy Creek Nature Center’s annual Scary, Oozy, Slimy Day! Astronauts, superheroes, pokemon, jedi knights, and princesses all showed up to learn about the animals and plants of “The Not so Scary Forest.”
There has been a fish kill in Athens! However, scientists do not know what is to blame... it could be a harmful algal bloom, chemical spill, disease, or E. coli outbreak. In order to find out what has caused the fish kill, students visited 5 water quality stations to test water "before" and "after" the fish kill.
EcoReach volunteered at the Georgia premiere of Chasing Coral, an important documentary about the rapid decline of coral reefs around the world due to climate change.
EcoReach volunteered at the annual river cleanup event, River Alive: Athens-Clarke County.
As a part of our monthly event at the Athens-Clarke County Public Library, EcoReach played "Predator-Prey Tag" with a group of teens after school.
